This model sacrifices high flow rates for portability, targeting solo campers or RVers who need a lightweight, battery-operated solution. Frequently asked questions
Can I use these propane heaters indoors?
No. All units in this list are designed for outdoor installation only. The ECCOTEMP and Camplux models explicitly state outdoor use. Indoor propane heaters require specific venting and safety certifications that these portable or outdoor units do not have. Using them inside poses serious carbon monoxide risks. Always follow the manufacturer’s installation location guidelines.
Which alternative is best for solo camping?
The Camplux 5L Portable Propane Water Heater is ideal for solo campers. It weighs only 10 pounds and measures 11.4 by 14.8 inches. This makes it easy to carry and store in an RV or tent. Its low-pressure operation suits off-grid showers where high flow is not necessary. It prioritizes portability over volume.
Do any of these heaters have smart app control?
Only the ECCOTEMP SMARTHOME 6.8 GPM model offers app-based energy management. The other alternatives, including the Camplux, VEVOR, and Ranein units, do not list smart features in their specifications. If you need remote control via a smartphone, the ECCOTEMP remains the primary choice. Other models rely on manual controls or wired remotes.
What is the lightest option for outdoor showers?
The Ranein 6L Portable Propane Water Heater is the lightest at 9.92 pounds. It is designed for camping and portable outdoor showers. Its compact size and low weight make it easy to move. However, it has a lower flow rate of 1.58 GPM. This suits basic washing tasks rather than full baths.
Which heater is best for a fixed outdoor kitchen?
The VEVOR 5.3 Gal Outdoor Propane Tankless Heater is best for fixed installations. It offers high BTU output and precise temperature stability. Its wired remote allows for convenient control in a permanent setup. It weighs 29.1 pounds and is larger than portable units. This makes it suitable for whole-house or high-demand outdoor applications.
Can these heaters handle multiple bathrooms?
Only the ECCOTEMP SMARTHOME 6.8 GPM and Ranein 5.3 GPM models support high-volume needs. The ECCOTEMP is rated for multi-bathroom setups. The Ranein also provides strong heating power for multiple outlets at low altitudes. Other units like the Camplux and VEVOR are limited to single showers or cabins due to lower flow rates.
Are these units safe for RV use?
Yes, several models are suitable for RVs. The Camplux 5L and 6L units are explicitly listed for RV use. They are lightweight and portable, fitting easily in travel spaces. The Ranein 6L also supports RV applications. Ensure you have proper ventilation and secure mounting, as these are outdoor propane devices not designed for enclosed interior spaces.
